(ORLANDO, Fla.) Feb. 14, 2011 – Science Applications International Corporation [NYSE: SAI] will demonstrate how it is helping to improve the quality, efficiency and safety of healthcare through solutions expediting quality measures reporting at the 2011 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibition Interoperability Showcase February 21-24, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

During the showcase, SAIC will demonstrate expertise in informatics and standards to illustrate a solution for measuring and reporting patient care quality metrics. Using a Health Level Seven (HL7) based format, SAIC created a repository to store quality measures definitions and an automated process to generate quality measure reports based on these definitions. These quality measure definitions and quality reports can be transmitted over the Nationwide Health Information Network (NW-HIN) to meet regulatory compliance and meaningful use reimbursement requirements.

In addition to participating in the showcase, SAIC will demonstrate its dynamic On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment (OLIVE) software platform in a series of virtual-world training scenarios. OLIVE enables customers to deploy their own persistent and secure three-dimensional (3-D) virtual worlds where hundreds of users can collaborate over computer networks using a video game-like, 3-D user interface that provides access to a variety of functionality and media. The scenarios include in-hospital medical training for healthcare professionals using realistic, human avatars suffering from trauma and injury; and a unique behavioral healthcare approach that enables deployed personnel to connect with their families and help mitigate the familial, societal, and emotional effects of war.
