SAIC Collaborates with White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities to Provide Training to HBCU Community

September 9, 2008
SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., Sept 09, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) announced today that it is collaborating with the White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to provide free training in proposal development and pricing to approximately 100 faculty members and students attending the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Conference in Washington, D.C. Sept. 8-12.

"SAIC's training program for the HBCU/Minority Institutions community is aimed at helping these institutions to be better equipped to pursue government contracting," said Arnold Punaro, SAIC executive vice president and general manager of Washington Operations. "Our objective is to support these institutions and students and also give them greater opportunities to work with industry."

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed Executive Order 12232 that established the White House Initiative to strengthen and expand the capacity of historically black colleges and universities. Each President since that time has subsequently issued an Executive Order on HBCUs, with President George W. Bush signing Presidential Executive Order 13256, Feb. 12, 2002. Executive Order 13256 includes a private sector strategy to assist historically black colleges and universities in improving and enhancing the quality and number of private sector relationships, thereby increasing opportunities for these institutions to participate in and benefit from federal programs.

SAIC has worked with the HBCU community for more than a decade. The company's HBCU program includes infrastructure development and training, scholarships, and subcontract awards. Last year, SAIC was recognized by the White House Initiative for HBCUs for its outstanding work in providing subcontracting opportunities.
