SAIC Among Top 50 Greenest Companies In U.S.
Newsweek Ranks SAIC no. 44 in Annual Green Rankings
MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 31, 2011 — Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE: SAI] was recognized again this year on Newsweek’s annual Green Rankings; rising to no. 44 among the greenest U.S. companies.
Newsweek teamed with two leading research organizations to create a comprehensive list of the greenest 500 companies in the U.S. They assess each company’s environmental footprint, management of that footprint, and transparency, and rank accordingly. Factors considered include greenhouse gas emissions and water use; environmental policies, programs, and initiatives; and company reporting and disclosure.
In 2011, SAIC was named no. 44 on the U.S. Companies Green Rankings. SAIC rose in position from no.192 in 2010, after rising more than 120 places from its 2009 position. SAIC scored particularly well in the area of environmental impact.
“SAIC solves problems of vital importance to our environment by introducing environmentally friendly technologies and helping our customers improve energy efficiency,” said Vice President of Corporate Responsibility Karen Garsson. “We have a talented group of people tackling some of the biggest challenges facing our environment today, but as a corporate entity, it is important that we also look inward for innovative ways to save energy and protect our natural resources.”
SAIC recently announced its goal to reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions 25 percent (from 2010 levels) by 2020, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable business practices and other corporate responsibility initiatives. In addition, SAIC recently joined C3, a leading energy resource management software provider, in a strategic alliance to provide energy and emissions management solutions to its customers. In support of its emissions goal, SAIC will also use the C3 solution to model, analyze, and optimize energy use at its own facilities.
