Donation furthers cybersecurity education

(Reston, Va.) August 4, 2015 — The U.S. Naval Academy Foundation received a gift from Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, to support the Naval Academy’s Center for Cyber Security Studies 2015 Fall Cyber Lecture series.

The gift supports the center’s series of three to five lectures throughout the academic year, which are open to the Brigade of Midshipmen, government employees and a limited number of guests. These events are a critical component of the Academy’s efforts to become a national leader in cyber security education—a vital objective in a global environment where cyber security and cyber warfare have emerged as key mission areas for the Navy and Marine Corps.

Our Navy and Marine Corps officers must be prepared to fight and win in this new theater,” said John Rudder ’78, senior director of development at the Naval Academy Foundation. “Growing the Center for Cyber Security Studies is essential to the Academy’s pursuit of its mission. The Center’s lecture series brings national and global leaders in cyber expertise to the Yard, greatly enhancing the Brigade’s understanding of these topics and enriching the dialogue on these issues within the Academy community and beyond. The Center for Cyber Security Studies (CCCS) strives to educate all midshipmen in areas of cyber defense and warfare, facilitate the sharing of cyber expertise and perspectives, provide a streamlined means of identifying priorities, enhance interdisciplinary cyber research, disseminate information, harmonize efforts and shape a common framework for cyber-related efforts.
