June 27, 2017

(Norfolk, Va.) June 27, 2017 – Representatives of FORTUNE 500® science and technology company Leidos attended the Annual Scholarship Award ceremony sponsored by Navy League, Hampton Roads to present the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) scholarship to Old Dominion University rising senior Jared Johnson. Leidos' Charlie Croom and Nevin Carr were on hand to present the $4,500 scholarship that encourages family members of active duty, retired, honorably discharged or deceased Surface Navy sailors to pursue a STEM education. Retired Admiral Bill Gortney, former commander of Northern Command and the Norfolk based Fleet Forces Command, was the guest speaker at the June 9 luncheon.

The Anchor Scholarship Foundation relies on individual donors and industry partners to provide scholarships to family members of active duty, retired, honorably discharged or deceased Surface Navy personnel. Recipients, both children and spouses, are selected on the basis of academic performance, character, extracurricular activities, and financial needs.

"Our future is inextricably linked to technology, and investing in young scientists and engineers is important to help us compete in the world marketplace, and improve quality of life at home" said Carr.
